Re-Posting Because It Worked For Me – Please Do It Too!

This is the post I put up on January 6, 2012 – not quite two months ago. It worked for me! The San Jose public library and the combination public and university library in San Jose each bought a copy of my book after I placed an online request for it. Can you help me get more copies of Torn Apart: United by Love, Divided by Law, Judy Rickard, Findhorn Press, 2011 into libraries so people can read our stories and help us win the solution for immigration we desperately need? Some money from each book sold goes to the groups who work on our issue. If you can, make the phone all or go online to your library and ask them to buy my book – thanks in advance. Here’s the original post…

——————————-

Hi all, today is my birthday – 64 to be exact. I have one wish and I hope you can help me. The other day I saw an online form (on their Web sites) for my public library and my local university library that allowed me to request a book that I wanted them to buy.

Since my book, Torn Apart: United by Love, Divided by Law, is not in either collection, I filled out the forms and requested that the two library systems buy it. I am waiting to see if that happens.

But it made me realize that all of you can help get the word out about LGBT binational families by doing the same thing, if you will. And, each book sold generates income for the three groups working on our issue – Out4Immigration, Immigration Equality and Love Exiles Foundation. The proceeds from my book go to them, not me. So if you get your library to buy a copy – or more – it really helps us all.

So, depending on where you are, would you please contact your local public city library, public county library, university library, high school library, community college library, any other type of library you might have that is pertinent, even your church/synagogue/meeting place/mosque library if that works. Ask your local PFLAG chapter, too! Be an advocate for us! Ask your friends and family to help, too.

So please go to your library Web site, or go to your library, or call, or email or whatever your system allows. As them to buy Torn Apart: United by Love, Divided by Law, Judy Rickard, Findhorn Press, Scotland, UK, 2011, ISBN 978-1-84409-548-3, $20.

If it asks subject area, give them current events, immigration, gay studies. That’s what’s on the book.

Thanks! You are helping thousands of us stay together and it should be easy to do. We hear stories more often now of LGBT binational couples that are NOT being torn apart. Let’s up the numbers! You will help by getting more people to read our stories and learn about the situation and how they can help us. I really want to be able to sponsor my wife Karin for immigration and right now I still can’t. But one day I will!

Here’s my regular message at the end of each post…

Immigration Equality, Out4Immigration and Love Exiles Foundation are the three groups working on our issue – and the three groups who receive whatever money comes in from sales of my book, Torn Apart: United by Love, Divided by Law, Findhorn Press, 2011.

Elizabeth Gilbert wrote the foreword to my book. She is an ally in our fight and has suffered from the immigration situation herself as part of a binational relationship. Though she and her boyfriend were able to marry, they know what the drill was and they advocate for LGBT binational families. We like that!
