Judy and Karin
Karin returned to America on February 19, 2011. All the history of my trying to sponsor her for immigration, trips she has taken in and out of the U.S., everything is on file in the Homeland Security computer system. Karin was detained for more than an hour by ICE and grilled about where she was going, why she was visiting, etc. but they gave her a six-month visit so our cycle begins again…

Chad and Tim
Tim had to leave the U.S. for a year. He got a job teaching in Cairo. After Tim left, Chad lost his job. That hurt them financially but Chad was able to visit Tim. Chad returned to the U.S. only to find that Tim was in Cairo during the February 2011 conflict and demonstrating. Tim left Cairo and went to Turkey, where he had worked before. Last time I contacted Chad, February 6, 2011, Tim was safe. If all goes as planned originally, Chad and Tim will be together in America in August, 2011. I’ll post more when I know more.
I’ll post a photo of them together again when they are together again.
Steve and Joey
This couple has been through a lot but are together in Canada now! On March 1 Karin and I got a Skype call from Steve and Joey and we saw them online together! We are so excited and yet so sad that they had to do this…
But they are connecting to Love Exiles folks there and Joey will be looking for work. Steve is going to open a business, a soup and sandwich shop, so when it is open I will help him get the word out! If anyone knows of a firm in Vancouver that needs a terrific structural engineer, let me know and I will forward the information to Joey. (He has a Ph.D. and could teach, too, so let us know about that angle too.)
Though Joey is not feeling safe about showing his face in a photo, I asked and they promised to send a photo of them together again. Here’s what they sent – showing them together in Canada, footloose!
Shirley and Jay and Family
On February 24, 2011 I got an email reply to my inquiry about this family’s status. The special legislation Shirley got was good for the last session of Congress or until UAFA passes. Well we know that the bill hasn’t passed and the new Congress is in place. Shirley and Jay and their sons are still in America and the new special legislation from Senator Dianne Feinstein will be complete in a few days, they shared. Whew!
